Dear Mr Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning !
It is my great pleasure to give a speech at this important conference on behalf of Foshan Xianhu Laboratory. First of all, congratulations on the opening of the 3rd Symposium on Ammonia Energy. Foshan Xianhu Laboratory is very honorable to jointly host this prestigious event along with the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and Shanghai Jiaotong University. We are very pleased to see over 500 experts and scholars from around the world taking part in this conference.
This conference is characterized not only by academic gathering but also by holding an industry workshop on ammonia energy applications, which I think is an innovative manner to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Professor Yuyang Li, the co-chairman of this conference, told me that more than 20 companies and about 160 universities and research institutions will be engaged face to face in discussing ammonia energy development. This indicates that the conference is a very good platform both for academic exchanges and for industrial cooperation in the field of ammonia energy. So I wish this conference a great success!
Taking this opportunity, I would like to give a very brief introduction to the Foshan Xianhu Laboratory. Yesterday morning Professor Yibing Cheng showed everyone two beautifull pictures of our laboratory. The laboratory is located at the Foshan city in Guangdong province, focusing on hydrogen and ammonia energy technologies. Foshan city is an ancient city because it has a history of more than two thousand years, and it is also a modern city because it is a very famous industrial base for manufacturing. In terms of ceramic manufacturing, Foshan is usually called "the Chinese capital of ceramic industry". In the past four years, the Guangdong provincial government and Foshan municipal government have supported the laboratory by over four hundred million US dollars, and last year the National Energy Administration under our central government approved the laboratory to build a national key laboratory for hydrogen and ammonia energy technologies.
As far as ammonia energy is concerned, our laboratory has made breakthroughs in several disruptive technologies, which include the higher temperature combustion technology for ceramic manufacturing, metal processing, power generation based on ammonia or fuels mixed ammonia, and ammonia internal combustion engines for heavy trucks, as well as a large-scale and low-cost green ammonia production. The two-level governments are currently taking strong measures and making positive policies to push the industrialization of these key technologies. Our laboratory and leading companies in Guangdong and Foshan areas are also jointly carrying out a industrial demonstration project, using pure ammonia as fuels to produce ceramic tiles at a large scale. Professor Yibing Cheng has reported this important progress in his presentation in the industry workshop yesterday morning. Being optimistic, we estimate that by the year of 2030 the required quantity of liquid ammonia will reach 70 million tons.
Now we can say that Guangdong and Foshan city are pioneers in ammonia energy industrial applications. We might as well say that in the next few years the global ammonia energy industry will look at Guangdong and Foshan. So I warmly welcome you to find time to visit our laboratory and to discuss possibilities of cooperation. You may also know that Foshan' food has earned its high reputation in China, so when you visit our laboratory, I believe that you will certainly have unforgettable experience not only for academic exchanges but also for enjoying the very delicious food!
Thank you!
